PlayStation 5 rereview: A smaller console with a bigger game library

Engadget

With over 60 million PS5s sold, Sony is so far dominating this generation of game consoles. Four years since the PlayStation 5 debuted, the company has rounded out its gaming lineup with the refined PS5 Slim (both with and without a disc drive) and the more powerful (and expensive) PS5 Pro. At possibly the console's midlife, up against the Xbox Series S and X, ever-increasingly powerful gaming PCs, and Nintendo's Switch, it's a good time to reassess what the PS5, in pole position, is doing to hold gamers' attention spans and why the PS5 Slim is probably the right way to dive into Sony's rich gaming selection. Sony's PS5 redesign is a smaller console with slightly more storage and the same incredible selection of hit games. The PS5 Slim looks very similar to the original design but it's noticeably (thankfully!) smaller.

PS5 Black Friday deals 2023: Get $50 off the PlayStation 5

Engadget

We've found plenty of PS5 Black Friday deals, including games, accessories, store funds and the console itself. Grab the disc-based PlayStation 5 system for $450 on Amazon or $50 off the PS5 Slim bundled with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. In addition, you can save on DualSense controllers and games from franchises like God of War, Assassin's Creed and Star Wars Jedi. If you're happy to go disc-free, Amazon has the month-old PS5 Slim console bundled with a digital code for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which Engadget found to be "bigger and better" than the 2018 original, for $499 ($60 off). Sony's "Slim" PS5 console (officially called the PS5 Digital Edition) removes the system's disc drive but lets you change your mind later.

Daily Mail - Science & tech

First-person footage from Ride 4, the new racing game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox, is circulating โ€“ and it looks almost identical to real life. Ride 4 from Italian video game developer Milestone based in Milan brings to life 34 racing tracks from around the world, including Donington and Snetterton in the UK, which were all meticulously digitally recreated with the aid of laser scanning. The gameplay features little touches such as overcast lighting and rain on the tracks, in an incredibly convincing recreation of the British weather. Gamers can also choose from more than 250 bikes from 22 official manufacturers, such as Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha. Ride 4 is now available on PlayStation5 and Xbox Series X, as well as online gaming platform Steam via a PC.

Thinking About a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S? Here Are 4 Reasons to Hold Off

TIME - Tech

The hotly anticipated next-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony are now available, meaning you can enjoy kicking ass and taking names on your TV in luxurious 4K glory. But if you're on the fence about upgrading to the Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 (or you just can't find one in stock), you might want to stay there. The trio of new devices are indeed powerful, but plenty of factors--including a disappointing lack of next-gen games--means you may be better off waiting til next year, when the dust settles, deals may be on offer, and more games are ready for you to enjoy. You may think a new generation of consoles would bring a new stable of exclusive games taking advantage of all that newfound processing power. But some of the most anticipated next-gen launch titles, like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Godfall are also available on previous-gen consoles or PC, meaning you don't need to upgrade to play them unless you want the absolute best visual experience possible.

Xbox Series S review: The next-gen starter pack

Engadget

The Xbox Series S is, hands-down, the cutest console of the next generation. The Series S can hit resolutions above 1080p, but it doesn't support 4K gaming and it has significantly less storage than the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. And, of course, it doesn't have a disc drive. That said, the Series S is a formidable next-gen console that happens to be wrapped up in an adorable package. The Xbox Series S is undoubtedly the most adorable console of the next generation, but its tiny size comes at a cost. It can't play games in 4K, doesn't have a disc drive and has just 362GB of usable storage, unless you buy a pricey expansion card.

Video games: How to get started while staying at home, social distancing amid coronavirus

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

The Nintendo Switch has become about as difficult to find as toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Prices for the video game console are surging on the secondary market. Netflix, Hulu and Disney Plus can only hold attention for so long. And video games have never been so versatile, or appealed to such a range of ages. Much like the Nintendo Switch itself, which can seamlessly "switch" from being played on televisions to a handheld experience, modern video game systems are more than they may appear.
